The President of AFF, Mr. Ruben Hayrapetyan, estimates as unsatisfactory the performance of the Armenian national team in Euro-2004 qualifiers. At the same time he states that he trusts the head coach of the team Mihai Stoichita: “Our coach is a good specialist and he can work. If you remember, I said inviting Stoichita that we have a long-term program aimed to the creation of the future team. “We conducted 1004 matches in the season-2003, by 168 more than in previous. This rise is due to the closer attention to the junior and children football. We conducted the championships for the ages of Under-12, 13, 14 and 15. So, the number of them who plays football grew too,”- said the President of the Football Federation of Armenia Ruben Hayrapetyan on press-conference on November 23. He noted that the objective of the AFF is to have 20-25 thousands of football players in the country. The financial reports of AFF will soon be available, but, according to the President, Mr. Ruben Hayrapetyan, it is clear now that about $300,000 were saved. “I want to tell my wish to the Committee, for this amount to be spent in regions on the repairing works in the football schools and fields. For example, the beautiful stadium in Dilijan may be repaired. We shall do everything possible for the football in regions, to make the progress,”- said the President of the Federation on the press-conference.

FIFA published the official coefficient standings of the national teams. Among the 10 teams struggling for 5 places in Euro-2004 finals, the biggest progress was achieved by Latvia, which won its game in Riga against the bronze medalist of WC-2002 Turkey - 1:0. Latvians moved from 69th to 56th place; rising number of points by 21 (from 524 to 545). 3 other teams of former USSR also had the progress- Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. Turkmenistan climbed from 145th to 122nd place (+90 points), Tajikistan- from 180th to 159th place (+76 points). Uzbekistan was 109th with 413 points, the same as for Armenia, but now progressed up to 79th place. Our team moved 3 places back and is now 112th with 411 points. more

The club of Shirak Gyumri won its 10th medal collection of the Armenian champs. In fact, the team only twice was left without medals, being the champion 3 times, and winning 5 silver and 2 bronze collections. The goalkeeper Raymond Zaduryan, and the former and current captains Hovhannes Tahmazyan and Gagik Margaryan are the records men of Armenia having 10 medal collections each. For Artak Adamyan, the bronze of 2003 is the first one, but 8th as a medal- he won 3 gold and 4 silver medals previously. Ararat Haroutyunyan, the leader player of Shirak, will be awarded 7th time (1+4+2), and Karen Alexanyan, Henrik Batikyan and Arman Tonoyan for the 6th time (1+3+2). This is about the statistics. As was mentioned previously, the two Armenian national junior teams (Under-17 and Under-19), performed excellently in European champs 1st leg qualifiers in Bulgaria and Ukraine, taking first places in both tournaments. In the 2nd leg, Armenian national Under-17 team will face England, Norway and Iceland. The games will be played on 24-28 March 2004 in England. The terms and place of the tournament for Under-19 team is yet unknown. The Armenian Football Federation made an application to conduct the 2nd leg matches in Armenia. Armenians will face Germany, Portugal and Slovakia. more
